My students are an incredibly diverse set of young, emerging biologists. With 150 of them in all at a high school of 2000, they represent the whole range of skills and abilities. With devastating budget cuts to our public schools and a general lack of resources, my students don't always have the tools to be successful and do hands-on science, but they are never lacking in curiosity. My students reflect their community and represent all races, socioeconomic backgrounds, and cultures. The are dancers, writers, rappers, athletes, artists, bloggers, debaters, reporters, and more. They are also all raging Biology nerds (although some of them don't know it yet). My students are some of the most intelligent and creative people I have ever met, at the very young age of 14. They have a passion for learning and tenacity that demands intellectual challenges. My future biologists deserve the same access to resources that all high-quality educational institutions provide.
