A middle school science room is more than just learning and teaching about science. This is a space where students spend hours throughout the school year. It is important to me that my students feel a sense of belonging and welcomeness as they enter my classroom. Having new furniture in my classroom will give me the opportunity to have this for my students. My project consists of constructing a "Student Center" where I will place any materials students can use on a daily basis and others that can be used during special projects or design challenges. In this space, I would also like to add a science library where I will store science and engineering magazines and books. Having these things will support my students in feeling a sense of belonging as well as support their literacy while giving them access to diverse reading experiences. Students will benefit from these resources not only during the class period but also during breaks and lunch where many of my students spend their time. I know for a fact that my students will take advantage of these new resources!
