I am hoping that along with flexible seating and traditional tables and seats will enhance learning in my third grade classroom. I am a newbie at it but I am hoping that my students and I love having a choice of seating rather than the traditional chair! I have chosen 6 yoga balls and this seating option gives a child that needs to move while learning the option to do so. I have also chosen 3 wobble chairs that also allows a child to move while learning. I have seen them in action in other classrooms and they do help a child be more successful. The last seating option I have chosen are stools that don't move but give an option to a child that doesn't care for a traditional chair. Many students also have attention problems, being able to move and change seating can eliminate the behavior issues that may arise. They can move their seating choices together as they are reading and discussing also. Having a seating option that they have chosen creates a classroom that can collaborate, and even a spot where they can work in peace. My students are learning that a classroom is not just within our four walls. It doesn't have to be traditional (uncomfortable) and orderly for learning to occur. Help my students get the chance to do their very best this year!
