These materials, such as the ramps and balls set allow for a lot of hands-on practice where each student will get a chance to construct their own knowledge while communicating with their peers. These kids come from a rural town where farming, building and fixing things is part of their everyday life in many cases. The science materials here like the root vue set allow the things they see at home to be reinforced and built upon at school. We need the soft cushions because we use flexible seating in our room and often the floor is the best place to learn. We want the kids to comfortable so their engagement with the materials will last longer. Oral language is a vital part of literacy and these materials and activities will provide countless conversations between both the students and the teacher. Conversation and problem solving is an early learning skill that cannot be rushed or forced, it needs to be natural and allowed to happen over the course of the year. These items will provide that.
