Why should my middle school classroom look like you just walked into a Starbucks? It is comfortable, relaxing, warm, and safe. There are research-based data outlining the effectiveness of flexible seating. Children, especially hormonal 7th graders, need to feel cared about, respected, and made to feel comfortable. At this age, they are uncomfortable for many reasons and I want to create a comfortable learning environment. I want them to fall in love with reading! Flexible seating will not only help my students feel comfortable in their surroundings, but it will also help students who have ADHD, ADD, and Autism by allowing them to have some freedom in the class. According to Psychology Today, classrooms which have flexible seating options have raised their overall proficiency scores by 27%. Due to the fact that my classroom is based on collaborative group work, this allows them to learn comfortably and interact with their classmates at a higher level. Please help me provide this for my middles! Thank you.
