Students practice sight words and spelling words daily, both as a whole group and in word work rotations. These rotations include stamping out words, creating words out of dough, using magnets to create words, and making words from letters rolled on dice. As students move through word work rotations, they will be able to access the words in different ways many times. This repetition though different types of access to the words will help them be successful in learning them. These hands-on materials will allow students to access words through multiple modalities of learning. Hands-on learning is very effective for first graders, and these materials will give students the upper hand in successfully learning their sight and spelling words. Mastery of these words will allow my students to become lifelong readers and learners.
