My school is implementing a new reading program this year that will work on building students' reading stamina. One of the joys of this program is that they will be able to choose their own books during guided reading time. I truly believe that by handing them ownership of their time and resources, they will be empowered to learn. In order for my students to excel during independent reading time, I need an enticing and engaging classroom library. I have thought about my students' varying personal interests and reading levels while compiling this project. I have also included a rug for my students' comfort during our whole-group instruction that takes place at a gathering spot on the floor. The majority of my classroom library is comprised of my own books from when I was a 4th Grade bookworm. I was hooked on reading at a young age, and it has helped me immeasurably in my life. My hope is to have a class library that will make voracious readers out of all my incoming students.
