My ESL students are at a disadvantage because of the language barrier; add this to the stress of trying to keep up in algebra class without their own calculator, and many struggle more than necessary. They do not have the capability to afford this calculator, and without it at home many fall behind. It's important to allow the students to have access to technology that will allow them to achieve higher grades, knowledge of the content, and to feel comfortable with the calculator, not just to use in class, but to use at home and in future classes and possibly onto college. My students are some of the most hard-working and appreciative students who I've had the pleasure you work with. They make a difference in my class, and I'd like to help them make a difference in all classes.
