Students will understand 3rd-grade math concepts if they are able to use hands-on math manipulatives as well as complete math problems daily in their math journals. Daily, students work in math journals to complete math activities independently and in small groups. This helps them prepare for their learning that day. Students are able to practice their social skills by discussing how they completed the math problem in their journals. Each student needs their own composition notebook to complete this activity daily. Students also need to be able to have a variety of math manipulatives to use during whole group and small group working times. Many of my students need hands-on materials to help them understand the concepts being taught. For example, the fraction sets will help students understand the different fractions and be able to determine which fraction is larger or smaller. I intend to use all of these materials on a daily basis in both of my math classes. These materials will make math fun and be exciting for my students!
