I am a high school English teacher in a rural area of Utah. About three years ago, a student confided in me that several of her classmates were missing school for a week every month because their families could not afford tampons and napkins in addition to food and rent. Since that time, I have been buying 2-3 packages of tampons and pads to help these young women in my school. I just leave the items in the girls' restroom next to my classroom to alleviate any shame or embarrassment the girls may feel. I resupply the stock every Thursday.
