My goal is to marry traditional learning strategies and 21st technology to build an 'Alexandria' space for my students. Exposing my kids to world locations via art/maps; having them engage one another through one-on-one debates at lecterns, having space within the classroom to keep all their technology charged will allow me to not only keep my students engaged and active participants in their learning, but it will surround them- literally- with books, digital mediums, physical resources that allow every type of learner to locate the best method of information retention.
I want to give my students an atmosphere similar to what many of my colleagues and myself had access to in university; i.e., study nooks, live-model props in which to hone our skills, and simple ports to keep our growing electronic study arsenals charged. In so doing, this will not only give my students a better footing with more well-funded peers, but provide a safe learning environment where we can not only learn together, but simulate some real-world activities together within the safety of the classroom.
