Every student is trying to figure out who they are as they enter into a new grade. The transition from 2nd to 3rd is usually difficult for most kids due to changing hormones, different students in the classroom, new teachers on a new floor, and the pressures of testing. This is similar to what Robbie is facing as he enters 3rd grade. After all of those things, he also has to face a bully. While Robbie is a fictional character, his situation is very realistic and pertinent to my students today. The book How to Be Cool in Third Grade will help them realize the importance of being themselves and overcoming any obstacles.
