I am requesting 4 tablets to be used daily in my fourth and fifth grade classroom. I have done extensive research on making my classroom paperless, and the benefits of the students becoming engaged in their own learning far outweighs the negatives of spending too much time online. With the use of our tablets, students can access their Google Drive and have the ability to collaborative research and share their findings with their teammates. It also allows me to check their work and research online via Google Classroom, another free Google resource. I also feel that learning how to do research papers and properly use the internet will brings 21st Century Skills to my students' hands. Allowing my students to take quizzes, tests, and complete their homework online ultimately helps us to save paper AND money. Another benefit of them doing their work online is getting them used to computers. I'm hoping that by increasing their knowledge about today's technology resources my students will be prepared for future courses. So, I truly love that my students will gain 21st Century learning skills and opportunities they wouldn't have otherwise. Our country is trying to gain knowledge in this area and starting students young is a positive. Our classroom will also become more environmentally aware of how much paper we waste, it lets my future students think GREEN and it gives me the very pleasurable job of yet one more way to tell them daily, “JOB WELL DONE!!!”
