My First Grade students are sitting in desks and chairs all day, and many are struggling to stay focused. Younger students have a hard time sitting still and cannot stay focused for long periods of time. I want to provide them with a variety of seating choices so they have an opportunity to move their bodies while they are learning and working. I know many adults who cannot sit at a desk or in a chair for long periods of time while working and I do not think it should be expected of young students. Having different forms of seating will allow them to get their "wiggles" out while staying on task.
