My children are seven and eight years old.. They live in a small rural community that is quickly becoming a city. Our public school has parents who are actively involved in many different ways. Many parents work yet they try to help out in any way they can. Some of my students are lucky enough to go to museums and other interesting places. Such experiences enrich their background knowledge and vocabulary which improves learning and reading comprehension. Unfortunately, not all of my kids are exposed to such rewarding experiences. My students are all new readers who love being read to and need the opportunity to read at their specific reading levels. I level them by ability and help them based on their needs. I am doing my best to instill the love of reading! Being good readers will help them to compete in our competitive global job market someday.
