I have been doing a lot of research into trauma-informed classrooms. In an urban school district, we experience many children who have experienced trauma in some way in the classroom. As a result, there are many students who struggle with attention, focus and sitting still. Flexible seating is one way to combat this. By giving them a choice on how and what they sit on, we are giving them tools to help them and take ownership of their learning. Flexible seating has been a proven strategy to help kids focus because it gives them an outlet to fidget in an undistracting way and allows them to have more choices that they feel in control of. I am asking you to help me, so my students can be the most successful in the classroom.
