Last year I did one wood working project and my students were so excited about it they told all of their friend and pretty soon I had students standing at my door during that period just to watch them work! I have invested over $600 of my own money to make wood working more accessible to all of my students this by purchasing classroom sets of tape measures, hammers, screw drivers, routers, belt and orbital sanders, circular and jig saws. This year I will offer an entire course in wood working and one great way to show how carpentry is a form of art is with a CNC router! We are a college prep school but we know not everyone will go to college and learning a skilled trade can help those students have a great future. I will use a woodworking class and the CNC router to teach my student about different skilled trades and give them an opportunity to produce professional grade work which will boost their confidence in their own abilities.
