The students of KIPP Memphis Collegiate Middle (KMCM) are resilient, creative, self-disciplined, and determined. Our scholars face a number of challenges in their educational pursuit. Poverty is their reality, and with poverty comes a number of emotional health factors that challenge their abilities to perform at their best. Just outside of this amazing little school are blighted buildings, boarded up houses, and overgrown empty lots. Yet, our scholars come to school and give their best effort to rise up despite their challenges. I am growing a new visual arts program for our "kippsters." I'm so excited about the opportunities that art will bring to my students. Together we can give them a means of expression and learning, as well as bring a new audience to their talents.
