This new, large, colorful rug will make our classroom an inviting and comfortable place from the very first day of school. In my Spanish immersion classroom, the rug is one of the most important areas. It is where we start and end our day as well as one of the main places learning happens. As an immersion teacher, I use song, dance, stories, and hands-on activities to help my students get started on the path towards become fluent Spanish speakers and readers. Having a comfortable central place to gather is key to this learning. Our current rug is old and dirty, even though the students work hard throughout the year to help me keep it clean. The students and families arriving in late August will certainly feel welcomed and excited when they arrive in my classroom and see this bright space to learn and play.
