Many of our students are recipients of free/reduced lunches. In addition, our kiddos receive a free daily "Super Snack" at the end of each school day. The snacks are distributed in the classroom and consist of milk, grains, fruits/veggies, juice, yogurt, string cheese, etc. These snacks are amazing and ensure nobody goes home with a hungry belly. We are so grateful to be able to provide these snacks but eating in our classroom has presented some challenges. We eat on our desks, the same desks we have been working all day. The same desk where we stack our chairs at the end of each school day. The Super Snack packs also do not include napkins so we have been using Kleenex to clean up our mess...or even worse...wiping our hands on our pants. I'd like to provide a more sanitary place for my students to eat their Super Snacks each day. Ideally, we would sanitize our desks each day before and after eating with Clorox Wipes AND receive a Brawny paper towel with our snacks. I selected Brawny because they are perforated into smaller sections so we will be able to stretch them farther. I believe doing this will cut down on illness and absences as we move in to cold/flu season. In addition, I would like to request canvas pencil pouch bags. These will be used to transport materials to/from student homes (such as sight word cards, math practice games, etc). These bags are washable and will cut down on germs because I can take them home and wash them regularly.
