My school district recently made the decision to put virtual learning in place for our students for the upcoming school year. While I am sad that I won't be able to see my students in person, I am eager and ready to start preparing virtual lessons and activities. However, I fear that my students will have obstacles in their way with the virtual learning process. Grandparents who are caring for students are raising concern over their lack of experience in technology to be able to help students. Since my school is in a rural area, a lot of them have a hard time attaining internet access. Several students have working families, so a lot of them might have a hard time participating with the class during the designated time. Therefore, I am looking for materials and manipulatives that students can use at home to enhance virtual learning or be used as learning tools for students that need flexibility with the virtual learning schedule. Providing hands-on materials and manipulatives to my students will give them the opportunity to maximize their virtual learning experience. If they are with me in the virtual classroom, they will be able to use the materials and manipulatives that can mimic the in-person learning experience. For those families who have grandparents watching students, or for those families who work during the virtual learning schedule, they will be able to use the materials and manipulatives when it's convenient for them. These materials will last them through the year, and they can be used for remediation, enrichment, or supplemental materials when participating in online classes.
