Our classroom is an Integrated Co-Teaching classroom. Our student population consists of general education students and students with Individual Educational Plans. Having Wobble Chairs and Balance Balls in our classroom helps alleviate some of the Ants in Their Pants and helps with learning. My students were able to increase their reading and math skills to above grade level marks due to the allotment of constant movement during instruction. Out of 22 kindergarten students 18 left reading on or above level, that is an 82% success rate! I am confident that adding additional seating options to our classroom will increase this rate of success. Some kids just have to keep moving! Their muscles crave activity, making it difficult for them to sit still for long periods of time or focus on seated activities. Having Floor Cushions and Portable Writing Tables allows for further movement within the classroom. Because active seating lets kids move and adjust themselves in a non-disruptive way, they burn off excess energy and get the stimulus their muscles are looking for, making them more attentive in class. Since the Plastic Stack Stools are lightweight, my students are able to carry them to any part of the classroom, giving them more flexible seating options. And once again, the movement creates more attention to the activity at hand. When looking for a relaxing area to read and pair-share, students can find the Big Joe Roma Chairs area of the classroom to work together comfortably. One last benefit of active seating: It’s not just for children with special needs. Anyone can benefit from this kind of seating as a way of staying healthier and more engaged in all kinds of seated activities. Thank You in advanced for helping us move as we learn!
