Kidstix is an engaging way for students to practice reading and performing rhythmic patterns they are expected to master as part of our elementary music curriculum. Created by Artie Almedia, this series includes exciting play-along tracks that include a variety of traditional, popular, and classical music selections. In order to truly understand the rhythms they are reading, students need to play! The homemade "stick stations" give each child, in essence, a miniature drum kit, where they can experiment with different timbres and combinations of sounds as they read and decode the rhythms included in the play-alongs. Together with some large cans recycled from the school cafeteria, the materials requested will create stations for 30 students, and will be used for multiple grade levels, meeting the students at wherever they are in their journey to musical literacy.
