According to seventh grade Social Studies teachers, students are lacking in geographical knowledge. Even at the grade 6 level, many don't know the difference between a state and a country, a fjord from a foothill. National Geographic with Geography The World and Its People is a terrific resource to help students increase their knowledge of the world. Our school participates in the National Geographic Geography Bee each year but haven't yet made it to the state competition. I would like to change that! Whether it's studying history or current events or imagining the setting in a novel, Geography is fundamental.
