My school is a low socioeconomic, high transient school. Our families try very hard to maintain a steady educational foundation for their children, but many do not have a high educational background, themselves. We have many ESL families, single parent families, and families who work multiple jobs to keep the family together. They are kind people. We try to work as a "team" for the betterment of the child. I use lots of visuals to encourage discussion and new vocabulary. We do hands-on learning and attempt projects together. Many families cannot participate in learning activities at school, so we help make the school the "source" of our learning time. The more resources I have to encourage "family" education, the better the "family" will be. The use of a "take home" newsletter would help educate the "family."
