Children need to move, bounce, twist, hop, and twitch. Movement actually increases oxygen flow to the child’s brain keeping the young scholar alert and focused. Unfortunately, I am entering a new classroom in a brand new state where flexible seating was not left for me but is fully embraced by the district and the administration. Flexible seating also allows quick and easy ways for students to pair up and work with their peers collaboratively quickly and efficiently without moving bulky desks. I am asking for a variety of flexible seating options to appeal to the diverse needs of my students. One student my find that his best work is done in a beanbag while another while find that they are better able to concentrate and put forth 5eir best effort while completing work on a ball seat. Not all children learn the same so it it is important to provide multiple seating options to appeal to different needs of my classroom. It is known that learning environments have a direct impact on a students achievement. By designing a flexible seating learning environment I plan on providing my students with a learning environment in which they feel confident and empowered in their ability to make choices and to work independently. I am designing an environment that works through collaboration and positive feedback. I am helping them become invested in their own learning.
