The kids we serve come from such diverse backgrounds that often don’t see the fun or point in education. Clubs like chess clubs help increase motivation and confidence, as well as showing kids that school can be fun and educational. Chess strategies help students increase brain power! Healthy competition, chess etiquette and respectful play are just some of the benefits. We had a small chess club in the past and our campus saw an increase in student scores in math and reading, especially in the population of kids that were involved. The students we are encouraging to join are from a high at-risk group that truly needs the outlet that chess club will provide.
