As a first year teacher, I am in need of many basic classroom materials. Since I will be teaching in a Title I community, many of my students will come to school without the materials they need. Receiving these items will help my students be prepared and successful while at school. Having individual whiteboards will help students be engaged and excited. This will allow me to give students math equations and have them write the answers on the whiteboards and hold them up. Doing this allows me to quickly assess students learning and what needs to be reviewed as well as what concepts students have grasped. Using clipboards allows my students to move around the classroom and school to complete work so they are not in a desk all day. Having the opportunity to go outside and observe science in nature, or compare measurements they collected around the school will help them realize the real-life application of the skills they are using. Students are noticeably more engaged in their work when they are using flexible seating. Flexible seating has proven to help students physical health, motivation, and academic achievement. Incorporating this into my class will allow my students to wiggle while they work which improves student work. Using exercise balls instead of seats can help students focus better as well as make them more productive. The feet on the balls help them to stay in place and not roll away so our classroom stays safe. The stools have the same benefits as the exercise balls allowing students have options in seating. The lap desks encourage students to get out their seats and sit on the floor in groups to work together while having somewhere to work. I am confident they will use these to enhance their learning.
