These books that have been chosen for our in-class library are vital to increasing literacy not just in the classroom but in our community. Students who have easy access to multiple works of literature are more likely to become avid readers and writers. As a first year teacher, I am starting my classroom library from scratch, so it is vital to my student's success within the classroom that they have these collections on hand. In order to cultivate engagement within the classroom, students need interesting texts to read and respond to. These literature selections provide a GREAT start to our in-class library, growing every year, supporting whole groups of students. My students are eager learners who deserve the very best that I can provide to them and being able to have a choice in what they read matters.
