The objective of my project is twofold. One, to help students foster a growth mindset in both mathematics and language arts. To do so, I will be teaching students about growth and fixed mindsets, a term coined by Carol Dweck, Ph. D in her book, Mindset. Through a series of mini-lessons about how the brain learns, perseverance, and maintaining a growth mindset, I expect to help my students foster a growth mindset throughout our school year! Using the Play-Doh, students will build mini-models of our brain. Next, students will use the self-adhesive labels to create a diagram of the brain and some of its functions. Finally, I will be using the Velcro dots to post mini-notes on students’ desks to encourage perseverance when faced with challenging tasks throughout the school year. Second, as a teacher, I hope to create a learning environment in my class that gives all children the best learning experiences possible. Part of this is by equipping some of my students with a safe way to channel some of the extra energy they are unable to control in class. I believe that by providing these students with a little more mobility and allowing them to move around freely without falling out of their chairs or creating a distraction for other children, they will have a better opportunity to maintain focus in class and continue to persevere academically. My students with a little extra energy will be using the Trideer Inflated Stability Wobble Cushions as a safe way to channel some of the extra energy.
