In this project, I have selected various books which emphasize particular speech sounds. These books will help students in their production of speech sounds, connecting spoken sounds to printed words (ELA-LITERACY.RF.K.1.B), as well as targeting various grammatical forms (ELA-LITERACY.L.2.1). All speech and language goals correlate to state standards, whether it be in Speaking and Listening, Language, or Foundational Reading Skills; quality therapy materials are vital to develop students' skills so they are able to access their curriculum. The Expanding Expression Toolkit (EET) helps students build the following language skills: oral and written expression, vocabulary comprehension, defining and describing, making associations, stating functions of objects, categorization, and similarities and differences; all of which lead to greater academic success (i.e., ELA-LITERACY.L.1.4, .ELA-LITERACY.L.4.4, ELA-LITERACY.SL.2.4, etc.). Speaking and listening, language, and reading skills are all areas which have been affected by COVID-related learning loss. All of the items chosen can be used in person or online. EET includes a multi-sensory component, which students can build a version of in therapy and take home to practice skills with family.
