Our school is located in the heart of the inner city in California, and it has all the baggage that come with most inner city elementary schools. Unfortunately, our school is a low performing school struggling to meet the benchmark for No Child Left Behind. All my students are minority. For most of them, neither parents/guardian speak a word of English. They all qualify for free school lunch Program. This is an indication of their families socio-economic background. My group of students is made up of 14 boys and 12 girls. They are curious, bundles of energy, and eager to learn. They are fascinated by technology. Our biweekly visit to the computer lab for half an hour is a cherished moment. 20 of my 26 students are second language learners. I have to use lot of regalia and images from the computer to teach them concepts and vocabulary. Our school is technology poor. The few technology that we have are either outdated or not functioning at all.
