S.T.R.E.A.M stands for Science, Technology, Reading, Engineering, Art and Mathematics. I believe by implementing STREAMTacular Learning Centers I can strengthen our small and whole group instruction and further improve my classroom management in that the teacher to student ratio can reach up to 1:25 in a school year (no assistant). Reflecting on my prior year, I know and research purports that if children are not rigorously engaged in their learning and on a level that meets their individual learning needs they will often resort to poor behavior which then aides in their perpetual low academic performance. Therefore MY STUDENTS MUST HAVE learning centers that are interesting and hands on! Centers that address their unique learning styles. Centers that will further the whole child and enhance academic development. The supplies and materials I have chosen will offer my students a lot of fun, engaging, confident building approaches connecting them to their learning in a meaningful way. The Literacy STEAM kits have story books, hand puppets, task cards and hands-on learning activities with each fairytale. These STREAM kits will allow me to introduce fairytales in a multitude of ways thus my students are then daily saturated, fully immersed, and rigorously engaged in Critical Thinking, Reading Comprehension, Problem Solving, Language and Writing. All the materials and supplies I have chosen will not only address letter recognition, phonological awareness, number sense and base ten operations, these literacy based centers will address all academic domains in my STREAM model.
