There is nothing better than the excitement of opening a brand new book. We want to expose students to texts that reflect the immigrant experiences of themselves and their families as we explore all of the reasons that individuals may choose to leave their home countries. We want our students to see themselves in the texts they read and to be able to connect and empathize with the experiences of others. We want our students to read about these important experiences to gain perspective and to realize the distinctive contributions that various immigrant groups have impacted upon American culture. All of this would not be possible without these books including titles such as Colour of Home and Grandfather's Journey. These books will not only benefit students who are in our classes this year, but will continue to have lasting impact in the years to come. Please support us in making this learning unit a success!
