After reading and researching the information available on flexible seating, I believe that redesigning my classroom is a necessity! My focus has always been and will continue to be student focused. Everything I do in my classroom is based on research and best practices for KIDS! Flexible seating has proven to encourage physical activity, which ultimately and directly, positively impacts academic achievement. I am requesting a comfy couch, soft seats, bean bags, and wobble chairs. Students will be able to choose the seating that works for them. Instead of sitting in traditional desks ALL day, they will have designated times throughout the day to choose other options. Students need physical activity to remain on task and studies have shown that behavior improves. Flexible seating will allow students choice, movement, a sense of community, comfort, collaboration and help with sensory input. Flexible seating will allow my students to take charge of their learning and make the choices that work best for them!
