Our library serves students in grades Pre-K through fifth grade. My mission in serving these students is two-fold: 1) to provide them with the information literacy, problem solving, and technological skills that them to access information and use it in a meaningful way 2) to grow our students into lifelong readers by providing and promoting a wide variety of texts (in genre, style, subject, reading level and format) that appeal to all students. Many of our students come from high poverty homes and have little access to books outside of our school library. The public library is on the other side of town, so for our students whose families have limited access to transportation, ours is sometimes the first library they encounter. Whether our library is our students' primary source for accessing books or one of many, we seek to make it a warm, fun, vibrant, welcoming space where everyone feels at home.
