My goal is to have a library of books that represent the diversity in my classroom. These books showcase diverse characters and stories that truly will help my students better understand the differences and uniquenesses of the friends around them. My students come from varied backgrounds, cultures, and languages. We need more books that represent and honor their diversity. It is important for my students to see themselves and their stories represented in the books we read. My students need to see books that showcase characters that look like them, explain and represent their background, show their cultural practices, and honor their diversity. These books would increase diverse representation in my classroom library and allow my students greater access to high-quality books with diverse characters. Using these books in my instruction allows my students to see the value placed on diversity and inclusion. In addition, it allows my students to see the value of diversity and provide them with a window to the world.
