My students are amazing! I'm sure all teachers feel that way about their kids but I am constantly impressed by the kids who come to my classroom. My students are all special needs kids with language processing disorders. Most of them have the language of a child three to five years younger than their age. My students take the bus which can take an hour or longer each way, they eat breakfast at school, work hard all day then face a long bus ride home again in the afternoon. A majority come from non-English speaking homes and several of their families work two or three jobs just to keep a roof over their heads. Our school is a public elementary school in a low income neighborhood with four classrooms set aside for Special Education. Our goal is to give the kids in our Language Enriched program all of the benefits that you would find in any middle to high income school setting.
