Coding and STEM introduce students to a whole new world of possibilities and careers. It is beneficial to students who struggle in the areas of Math and Reading and enhances and challenges well-rounded students by allowing them to go above and beyond. They will learn math concepts such as variables, problem solving what is relevant in todays world, project design, collaboration, communication, and perseverance in the face of difficult situations. Children need challenges to effectively learn how to problem solve. In order to do this my students will be given guides that need to be followed step by step. The materials will be used in station made up of small groups or pairs and they will rotate through each station multiple times. Mattel Bloxel Build your own Video game is my first choice because as we know most children love video games but do they think about what went into the design of a game they play at any given time. They will need to create a storyline that is consist though out the game and from three to six enemies to defeat. The Ozobot Coding Kit is versatile and covers a variety of different subject areas such as geometry, perimeter, reading, space exploration, energy and my favorite since we live in a snowy state design a snow plow. Think Fun Code Master helps build logic and complex thought process and does not need the use of a computer. Let's Get Coding is an extensive coding kit with 90 different projects and helps learn about loops, variables, statements and the c++ coding language. At the completion of each station my students will rotate through each stations to try each object that was designed and write a critique that offer improvements to the designs.
