Science concepts can be very difficult for students to grasp. One of my favorite activities to do with students after teaching a difficult topic is to challenge them to find metaphors that help them to understand and remember the difficult material. This method uses multiple learning styles to help all students achieve understanding! After they have found their metaphors we break out the easels, big sketch pads, and markers to draw the metaphors that help us relate those complicated science concepts. We can then post the students pictures around the room as we continue to explore these concepts. This also helps to provide great reviews before testing the students on the material. Having these new sketch pads and markers will help us continue to complete activities like this.
