These materials will enable my students to read The One and Only Ivan as a class. We read it last year with six copies, I checked out from the library, in one of our literacy stations. It was difficult to finish the book and to have class discussions because the students all read at different paces and were in various chapters in the book. Each student having a copy will allow the class to enjoy the book more fully and help create a meaningful reading experience. It will make class discussions deeper and richer. The interest in books it generates will last beyond fifth grade and into their futures.
