This project is one I hold dear to my heart. As the mother of three boys, I understand and appreciate that oftentimes reading can bring negative connotations to the table. However, by providing my students access to a variety of types of literature, I feel every student will develop a love of reading. Through novel studies of the books "The Things They Carried" and "Cold Sassy Tree," my students and I will discuss topics which they face daily including but not limited to: gender roles, the necessity of war, the definition of a hero, and morality. Reading is a vital part of everyone's life. Loving to read is an acquired talent. It is a talent I believe I can instill in my students through peaking their interests in alternative reading selections such as the books listed on my request.
