I truly believe that reading brings joy, even to the most reluctant readers, when they can connect to what they are reading. The books currently on the shelves in my classroom are extremely outdated. I struggle on a daily basis to fit the choices on my shelves to the things my students are interested in. My students crave books that present them with authentic, real-world issues that they can make connections with and relate to on a personal level. To see yourself in what you are reading is a truly unforgettable, and moving, experience (mirror). It allows them to feel seen and heard. This experience is something that I would like to provide to each student that walks through my door. By donating to our project, you will help make that a reality for all of my students. You will provide them with reading materials that they can see themselves, physically and emotionally. Books that they will relate to on all levels. Your donation will help them find their literary joy.
