In order to establish my classroom science lab, many specimens and living exhibits are necessary. There is no need to wait for high school or college for students to experience a science lab setting where engaging hands-on activities are the daily norm. As we know, students will master content when they "live it" instead of reading about it or watching it on a video. A significant portion of our 4th grade curriculum if life science focusing specifically on ecosystems and related concepts. The photo I included shows only a few items included in my science collection. Students will have daily access to rock specimens, snake skins, skulls, fossils, electrical circuits, magnets, and many other scientific tools. In order to have students understand what makes up a balanced ecosytem, I plan to have several ecosystem exhibits in the lab, one being the river ecosystem in which this project includes. I plan on having a desert ecosystem as well as an enclosed aquatic biome which students will actually create.
