I highly believe in shared literature and the power of every student having a book in their hands. I know from years prior, fifth graders love both A Wrinkle in Time and Esperanza Rising. If every student is able to have their own copy of each novel, this will increase their ability to reread at their leisure and differentiate small group instruction with one shared anchor text. Further, students will learn to analyze complex literature by responding to questions in their writing notebooks. Students will merge reading and writing for a more complete experience. Individual copies are a necessity for this task.
