My students will get an opportunity to learn how food grows organically and the process of composting waste from the cafeteria in order to inspire them to recreate this at home. Gardening is also meditative and will allow students an opportunity to experience mindfulness. Most of our students lack ample space to grow and this project will teach them how to grow in limited spaces. They will also learn about the importance of composting and decreasing the amount of material that ends up in the trash. Teaching students to love things that grow will allow them to experience nature and encourage them to help keep our earth healthy and understand the importance of clean water and land to grow the food we need.
