My class is full of excited STEAM innovators and I want them to be innovative in everything. Interactive read alouds will greatly impact my classroom by exposing my students to a variety of scientific concepts explained through stories. We will turn STEAM into STREAM by adding literature to our STEAM lessons. This project will provide the trade books needed to implement a variety of science lessons in my classroom. The books will be read aloud to engage students at the beginning of each lesson. Then students will explore, explain, elaborate, and evaluate scientific concepts throughout the remainder of the lessons. For example, I will read aloud the story "Oil Spill" and then my students will explore ways cleanup crews recover from an oil spill. Through an inquiry investigation students will simulate an oil spill and cleanup recovery. They will learn how an oil spill effects all aspects of the environment. Each one of the trade books in this project provides an engaging learning opportunity for my students. Using literature to bring scientific concepts to life is one way I plan to impact my classroom of innovative learners.
