Flexible seating moves the decision making into the hands of our students and allows them grow while meeting their individual needs. Many of the students who enter my classroom struggle with the ability to sit and focus on the task and assignments that they are working on. They need the opportunity to move and sit in a comfortable area to read and do the tasks that are necessary. Sitting in a traditional seat is hard for many. The wobble chairs, allow them to sit and move back in forth in a non disturbing way, while focusing on the work they are doing. Right now the kids have options to sit in a rocking chair, on a carpet, or at a different table. Just those simple changes have help them to grow and focus more. Giving them additional options such as wobble chairs, floor seats, beanbags and wobbles cushions, will give them more ownership of their learning and allow them to succeed in a way that works best for them. As they succeed, their confidence will grow and the academic gap with decrease. By providing these necessary learning materials, we are helping these children grow and become successful individuals. They can all learn, they just need the necessary tools to do it.
