The use of technology in the classrroom is a must because it is something that we all use throughout the day, everyday. It is engaging and fun for young learners who are still developing reading and math skills, problem solving and logical thinking skills, and fine motor skills. These kindergarteners are given online assessments throughout the year which can lead to growth and development in academic, critical thinking and fine motor skills. We have access to computers in the computer lab which is a wonderful learning opportunity for all students and we are beyond happy to have this amenity in our school. However, this can also create struggles for the students acurate score and understanding of the assessment because many of my students don't have access to technology at home. This means that not all students are familiar with how to use these devices. Online assesssments begin almost immediately when starting the school year which means computer lessons begin immediately as well. Young learners have to be taught how to hold, move, and select things using a mouse. Students have to be taught to recognize the letters and numbers on the keyboard in order to login and interact with educational games and assessments. In order to have many students on technology at once, students have to be taught to put on and adjust headphones to fit properly and adjust the volume. Most students are able to pick up all of these requirements to use the computer. However, there are still students learning fine motor skills who would greatly benefit from having touch screen technology in the classroom. We will use iPads to provide daily practice with technology and differentiation during reading and math centers. Working with iPads will allow students to fully engage and grow!
