Our students have managed to improve their reading proficiency scores by an average of 1 year just in the first semester, but they are still behind. I constantly seek out supplemental materials that are both engaging and digestible for them. Time off during the pandemic means many kids forgot how to be effective students. We have to slowly re-build their classroom stamina, while also battling the constant stimulation from outside sources like social media and internet gaming they grew accustomed to during their year-and-a-half out of the classroom. My goal is to build their reading and writing skills and confidence while teaching them history. The variety of these materials will hopefully get them interested in learning the wonderfully messy history of our country.
